Characterised by the magnificent and rare hexagonal volcanic rock column landscape off the eastern coast of the High Island Reservoir in Sai Kung East Country Park, Po Pin Chau forms the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark and Hong Kong’s most iconic geo-heritage.
To promote sustainability of hiking activities and to enrich visitors’ experience in Sai Kung East Country Park, Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department has planned to carry out enhancement works through providing a new viewing platform as well as a proper pathway with additional lookout points and signages for enhanced safety of visitors and contained human impacts to the headland overlooking Po Pin Chau.
Organised by Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) and co-organised by Architectural Services Department (ArchSD) of HKSAR Government, this single-stage Design Competition was carried out not only to champion excellence in designs that integrate and harmonise with the natural environment in this unique location, but also to heighten public awareness for conservation of natural landscape and “Leaving No Trace” through the Competition.
Singular Studio Limited provided full professional advisory services for the organisation and conduct of the Competition. Mr. Franklin Yu, our Founder and Director, was appointed as the independent Professional Advisor of the Competition.
Over 60 entries were received from the architectural, surveying, planning, landscape architectural, and engineering professionals, and the Competition results were announced in government press release issued after the Prize Award Ceremony held in September 2021. The First Prize Winner is engaged as Design Advisor for implementation of the winning design.
